How to upload, add and edit content on the Men Of Football website
On login you will see the Joomla Control Panel. To add an article slect from the top menu Components --> K2 --> Add K2 Items
Select the appropriate category: all new items will appear in the appropriate place on the website as long as the category and featured correct settings are correct.
To add images:
a) Hero image (main image at the top of the article) : select the Image tab (next to the content tab) in the edit screen and either upload the image from your computer or browse for a file already added to the Media Manager. This will appropriately size and place the image at the top of the page.
b) OR to insert image(s) into the body of your article, use the small blue image icon from among the tools in the edit screen. To use images in the body of the page, you need to have loaded those imagse into the Media Manager beforehand.
Media Manager
Load your images into the appropriate chapters folders before you add or edit any content. All folders and images must not have any spaces in the filenames. Instead of spaces, use dashes - where necessary.
Double-click your chapter's folder and upload web-optimised images (72dpi resolution, preferably in the correct dimensions) into those folders for retrieval within the document using the Image Manager.
Web-Optimised Images: no spaces in filenames, 72dpi resolution, top of page feature or in-page images: preferably 800px wide maximum.
Make sure that you have the correct sized images FIRST before uploading. You should export them as "for the web" or "web ready".
If you don't know how to use your computer's included image editing programs** to do this then use http://picresize.com/ or https://www.pixlr.com/ to correctly size images for the web, and use http://tinyjpg.com to compress the images.
Note: Please don't load a photo from a camera without editing it first - it will be 20 times the size that you need for the web.
**In either Mac or PC you should be able to click on an image and right-click or select an option to edit it right from the desktop.
Macs: Use Photo which comes standard to batch process and export image(s) at the appropriate web size to a folder and then upload.
Windows: Use MS Photo Editor or whichever in built-in editor your version has.
ps. Want MS Photo Editor and your version of Windows no longer has it? https://sites.google.com/site/probeit/MicrosoftPhotoEditor.exe?attredirects=0
If you don't have your own simple image editor or you'd rather just use an online one then I suggest using http://www.pixlr.com/
MEDIA MANAGER
To add images for a gallery please follow the instructions for Phoca Gallery below.
For all other images, please place them into the images folder of your chapter using the Media Manager.
Web-Optimised Images: Images must not have spaces in the filenames.
All images should be 72dpi resolution, and should preferably be a maximum of 640 pixels wide (no more than 800 pixels wide in landscape orientation and 500 pixels in portrait) and should be saved at a 50% (or at a maximum 60%) compression quality. That provides the optimum file size for a good quality image while maintaing download speeds.
To open the media manager either select Components > K2 > Media Manager from the top menu
or click

Select the chapter folder you require so you can see the images within it, and then click the
icon to open a window and browse your computer and select the multiple files to upload.

GALLERIES
To add images to a gallery please follow these instructions:
Select from the top menu Component > Phoca Gallery > Images
Click
to create a new Category. Set the title, category and click the Category Folder
button and select the chapter folder title and then click the
icon for the appropriate folder (create the folder using the "Create a Folder" box at the bottom of the pop-up window if necessary).

Once the new category has been saved, make a note of the ID number for the new category, then select the gallery "Images" menu on the left and click the
button.
Add a title, select the category that you just created, click on the chapter folder and then the category name so that you are in the category folder, and then click the
tab at the bottom and add the images you wish to upload from your computer. These should have already been saved at 72dpi resolution, and no more than 800px width for landscape oriented photos, and 500px width portrait oriented photos prior to uploading. Select all the images to upload, click Upload and once the process finishes, make sure all the files are selected (click the checkbox a tth top of the file list) and click "Save & close". (it may take a couple of minutes to create all the thumbnails)

To add a gallery to a page, find the original News item for the event, edit the text and title of the article to reflect that it is now a past event, select the category "Past Events" for your chapter and paste the following code at the bottom of the text:
<code>
phocagallery view=category|categoryid=3|limitstart=0|limitcount=0|detail=8|displayname=0
</code>
• This code must be placed between these type of brackets { } for it to work.
• You must change the categoryid=3 to whatever category ID number that displays next to the newly created category n the Phoca Galleries categories list under ID on the far right of the category in question.
TO CREATE/EDIT AN ARTICLE/ITEM
Either select Components > K2 > Items from the menu at the top or scroll down and click the K2 "Items" or "Add new item" button on the Control Panel page.

If you clicked the Items button you are now viewing the list of Items, either click
for a new article, or type a search keyword in the
filter box to find an item/article to edit and click "Go", then click the found item/article link and to display the editing page.
Creating a New Page
If creating a new page, you must select a category. Choose from your chapter's News, past events or occasionally the charity work/grants, which are the child categories for each chaper. Only use the chapter category for permanent chapter pages and documents.
To set a featured image at the top of the page click the
Image tab and either load an image from your computer hard drive, or search for an image on the server. If you need to load an image onto the server, use the Media Manager and save it in the appropriate chapter folder.
Editing an Existing Page
If editing a page, simply type over what is there (or where appropriate, double-click the text to highlight it and copy and paste the text from one window to another) or, If you keep the formatting as it is, and don't copy or paste from a Word document then everything will work just fine.

Use the button bar above to add formatting to the text in your editing window. Try to only use the Format dropdown for paragraphs and heading selection, and maybe the Bold and in rare cases Italics. try to be very sparing when using colours, and avoid setting different font families or font sizes. This tends to make the copy look messy and actually affects readability of the pages.
Note: When copying and pasting text from a word processing document or web page, please copy it into a Notepad/Text editor page first to remove all formatting and then copy it from there into the Joomla editor. You will save yourself a lot of formatting issues that way. If that's too confusing then in the Editing area, click the
link above the eiting window area, to view the raw code, and past the test into that, then immediately copy the text you pasted, click the "toggle Editor" link again and then pase the (now unformatted) text into this window. You will now be able to format it correctly using the "Format" selector on the button bar at the top.
Editing a Table
Where you need to delete or add a row to a table ensure that you click in the row that you want to affect and then select the appropriate option.

Click the Save button regularly when working on a page to ensure that you do not lose any work. To exit click Save & Close, or if you have entered an exiting page and do not want to change anything click the "Cancel" button to avoid saving any changes to the page.

Save & New simply enables you to move directly to a new blank Item after saving.
