Key changes to the old site
The entire site is managed through one interface
The Joomla CMS allows for easy customisation based on sections of a site, and easy management of lots of articles and large amounts of media which is why I've chosen it as the CMS for this site.
Different chapters have their own sub-domain portal
ie. http://hunter.menoffootball.org.au directs through to http://www.menoffootball.org.au/hunter etc. (see the chapter links).
This means that we can track precisely how many users come to a specific chapter portal page, giving us feedback on the popularity of different chapters. Additionally we can view analytics for all pages, as well as know from within the Joomla Admin how many hits there are for each page (the hit numbers numbers were copied from the old MOF website).
It also means we can customise each portal for each chapter.
Also, if you purchase different domain names for each portal they can be pointed to these hostnames (ie. www.mofcc.org.au redirects to http://centralcoast.menoffootball.org.au)
Better Stats management
If the previous Google Anaytics stats aren't available I will create a new GA account, and also setup our own Piwik stats server which is a much more reliable stats solution as it works off the same server.
Caching & Security
The site is optimised for speed, and is running caching and compression technologies to reduce the server load and download times for users.
The standard level of Cloudflare proxy technology is also deployed for the website. This significantly increases the speed of user access, and the amount of traffic the website can handle before moving to higher cost hosting options, and, additional to the security hardening is applied to the site, it provides a layer of security from attacks (which are a an ever-increasing constant on the Web). The server is integrated with the Cloudflare proxy service so that correct stats are maintained. Further speed and security benefits can be obtained using a commercial account with Cloudflare, however this is not necessary at present.
